One of the most important and the most beautiful organ of our body, the eye is God’s gift to us. It is imperative that we take adequate care of it right throughout our lives. However, it is common to see teenagers not taking enough care of their eyes unless there is some noticeable abnormality.

Today more than ever, teenagers are always eager to try on new things. Even using contact lens in various colors as a fashion accessory has become quite common. Though using contact lens is not really a bad idea, teenagers should take care of various aspects of their lens and eye health, including cleaning and rinsing the lenses without fail and storing them in a proper place. This ensures the contact lenses and thus the eyes are protected from bacterial and other infections.

Other important points to note are:

1) Children and teens are prone to ultra violet radiation that is caused due to exposure to the harmful rays of the sun. IN fact, glasses are even available with UV block or coating that may or may not offer complete protection. So it becomes all the more important for teens to pay attention towards eye care by using proper eyeglasses and other eye wear.

2) Children often have larger pupils compared to their parents. Their eyes are therefore exposed to more light. Since they are outdoors most of the time their eyes are exposed to light much more than an average adult.

3) A recent survey states that 80% of our lifetime exposure to ultraviolet rays occurs by the age of 18 and the annual dose of teens and young children is three times that of adults. It is also observed that short term damage is very hard to be noticed but if they are left untreated may lead to irreversible long term eye damage.

4) Children and teens require maximum eye protection. They can use the special UV blocking glasses when they go out in the sun as clinical studies show that these glasses minimize the risk of eye disorders.

5) Long term exposure to ultra violet radiation can increase the risk associated with cataracts and therefore must be consciously avoided. Direct exposure to sun light is however based on various environmental conditions like altitude and the geography of the region and also on personal factors like the extent and nature of outdoor activities.

6) You can use sunglasses even while driving to minimize the risk of exposure further. Some teenagers use sunglasses in order to look fashionable, but these actually help in protecting their eyes from the bright sunlight and also from dust and environmental pollution. You can choose from a large variety of sunglasses in different designs, colors and sizes.

7) Another aspect to be considered is the diet followed by teens. They need to have a proper diet comprising of vitamin, calcium and mineral supplements that provides them with the necessary nutrition required for healthy eyes. Follow these tips and you will have a pair of glowing and healthy eyes.

Regular eye check ups at least once in six months can be of great use. They can detect major defects at an early stage which might have not be visible otherwise.

In wise words, it is said “Without a vision, people perish”. All too often we are told to make goals, goal set, but the truth is, without the right sequence, you will not succeed. To succeed, you need a vision. In this article, I will help you with the numbers!

We are often told by master personal development life coaches, that to succeed you need to set goals. This has been me at times as well, however, to realize the full picture, will require knowing the sequence, and this for the most part is what people miss out: the vision.

What is a vision?

A vision is like how you are living now, but you predominantly imagined you would live, 5 years ago! What you think about, you become. And this happens from your thoughts, turning into your words, turning into your character, your actions, and ultimately your results. Setting goals for 1 specific area of your life is not a balanced life. This is why those that have persisted to achieve 1 major goal have lived a life with no happiness. This is not to say that setting one goal will make you unhappy, but that if we think more broadly, then we may create a life of bliss. The kind of life that others wonder why you live an extraordinary life.

How to create a vision?

Creating a vision is a simple process, and is one that is mocked by many people – that is to dream. To create a vision, you need to listen to your hearts desires. What do you want to experience in life? What do you want for health, wealth, relationships, and professional life? Many people suggest not dreaming, however, many people waste good time, by daydreaming. Daydreaming, and creating a vision, you intend to live are totally different things!

You will learn by the numbers, I will teach you! Remembering that line from a film called Full Metal Jacket; it took time for me to understand. But, the truth is there, you can’t live a vision without having one, and you can’t effectively goal set or live that life, until they have been done in that exact order.

- First you have vision

- Then you set goals

- Then you act, act, act

- Then you begin to live that life more and more, till you find you are at your vision

You will always need to be one step ahead. Retirement is usually a sign of the ending of a great story. People who live longer or have made it through trying times, that many died in, have always had a vision. So, creating a vision, working towards it, achieving it, and setting a new vision is part of the process of growing from one plateau to the next.

You can be a success and achieve all you set to achieve, when it involves a vision. Looking at your vision often is like looking at a map, and knowing where you are, and where you want to go to.

Have you read about this recently? Our eyes begin to degenerate as we age, causing them to lose their ability to focus and form clear images. The good news is you can actually preserve your vision with lutein by increasing its intake. Read on to find out how.

Before we talk about the effects on our vision with lutein, we need to first understand what it is and how it helps our eyes. Lutein is a carotenoid which forms the major component of the peripheral retina in our eyes. As you would be aware, the retina is the core component of the eyes and is responsible for forming a clear and crisp image of the objects we see.

As we age, the macula in the eye begins to degenerate and vision loss may occur to some extent. Symptoms like seeing things as blurred or wavy; begin to appear. This is known as AMD (age-related macular degeneration).

Lutein helps in preventing AMD and cataracts. Studies have shown that increasing the intake of this nutrient helps in considerably reducing the chances of developing AMD.

The richest sources of the nutrient are green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, green apples, green peas, turnip greens and asparagus.

However, it might be difficult to rely on improving your vision with lutein rich foods only. Most of the people do not consume enough of these foods in their diet. Even if they slightly increase their intake, it would not be sufficient to provide all the potential health benefits. Reserving a significant portion of their diet for green vegetables is something most people will not be willing to do.

The solution lies in nutritional supplements. Taking a good supplement that has enough quantity of lutein would enable you to have the benefits of lutein without sacrificing your favorite foods.

To top it all, the good supplements actually contain other synergistic nutrients that can enhance the health benefits many times over. Zeaxanthin and Zinc when taken in conjunction with lutein, enhance its eye protecting properties significantly. Bilberry extract also helps improve and preserve our eye sight by protecting against free radical damage.

To sum it up, you can easily preserve and improve your vision with lutein supplements that contain a host of natural and synergistic ingredients. Go find one, and your eyes will thank you for it.

? The nutrition required to maintain your eye health is present in foods like nuts, seeds, pepper, eggs, fish and other poultry products. Minerals and nutrients are essential as they undo the damage done to your eyes and reduce the risk of age-related problems.

? Try to avoid saturated fats and try to include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.

If you are obese, you are at higher risk of diabetes related eye problems. Ensure intake of aloe vera as a nutritional supplement to bolster immunity and prevent infections. Red blood cells generation contributes to proper functioning of the brain and nervous system. This contributes to the health of the eye and is ensured by adequate supply of Vitamin B-12.

Bilberry extract, a herb, is beneficial to the nerve cells of the eyes. Intake of this herb ensures improved eye health and enhanced eye vision. Mohania grape extract, another herb, is good for the retina. Aspalathus releases antioxidants in your body, which neutralizes harmful free radicals and protects eye health. One preventive step to ensure eye care involves the consumption of herbal and homeopathic medicines prescribed by qualified and reputed eye doctors.

If you are concerned about your eye, you must quit smoking. The habit harms the soft tissues of the eyes. It enhances the damage caused by diabetes related eye disorders.

If you want to prevent eye problems, regularly practice eye exercises to ensure proper eye care.

? Once exercise is to regularly and consciously blink the eye for at least 15 times in a minute. This aids eye lubrication and eye cleansing. It also reduces tension.

? Hold the head steady and move the eyes up, then down, then left and then right. Imagine a globe and move your eyes north, south, east and then west. Perform this exercise continuously for thirty times to improve eye muscle power.

? Close one eye and concentrate on a tip of a pencil held about a foot afar and then on an object placed further afar. Concentrate on the two objects alternatively to improve eye muscle contraction and expansion.

? Rapidly blink twenty times. This reduces the tension in the body.

Apart from the above measures, one must always wear sunglasses to protect your eye from harmful UVA and UVB rays. If you are exposed to UV rays at work, then always wear safety gloves and safety goggles.
